Both locations are filled with various dangerous mutants and other nasty hazards like toxic water or airborne diseases.
Amusement Park of Doom: You've got Wavy Willard's Water Park up in the Toxic Valley and Camden Park down in the Ash Heap. Always Chaotic Evil: Replacing the Raiders of previous Fallout games are "the Scorched," a group of semi-Feral Ghouls that are intelligent enough to use weapons (like firearms and blades) in combat, but still near-mindlessly attack anything in their path a la the Marked Men. She began just by training her daughter Olivia to be the next "Mistress of Mystery", but as more girls orphaned by the chaos in the region came to her doorstep, she formed the Order in order to train them to defend themselves. Rivers, the actress for the Mistress of Mystery (herself an Action Girl), formed the society after fending off a group of raiders singlehandedly using her stunt fighting training from her short-lived stint on the Silver Shroud TV show. 
Action Girl: Besides any female player characters, Shannon Rivers and the rest of the Order of Mysteries also apply. Two story expansions focusing on a expeditionary force of the Brotherhood of Steel have also being released. A later DLC, Wastelanders, dropped on April 14th, 2020 and featured the much-requested return of fully voiced human NPCs, dialogue trees, and an expansion to the main quest involving two factions, the idealistic, friendly Settlers and the ruthless, pragmatic Raiders, vying for a legendary treasure hidden somewhere in Appalachia. Players have to scavenge gear, build structures, and avoid getting killed by other players, the wildlife itself, and the encroaching ring of fire. On June 10th, 2019, Bethesda released the Nuclear Winter DLC, which includes a 52-player battle royale where players will fight to the death for the right to become the overseer of Vault 51.
